The City of Parkland is one of Broward County’s premiere living environments. Established in the 1960’s, Parkland was created as a small and intimate residential enclave that catered to families looking for a true country atmosphere. The two original neighborhoods (Pine Tree Estates and The Ranches) are comprised of wooded acre and multi-acre lots. There was a time when horses outnumbered humans.
The independent spirit of Parkland’s original residents can be seen in the wide variety of architectural styles represented in these early neighborhoods. As Broward continued to explode with growth in the 1970’s, Parkland remained one of the county’s best-kept secrets. Most people had never even heard of Parkland, which was exactly the way the residents wanted it to be. Access was difficult (and dangerous) via a two-lane country trail called Holmberg Road and negotiating the turn from (the then) two lane State Road 7 was quite a challenge.
In the 1980’s and 1990’s the secret began to get out. Larger developments such as Cypress Head and Country Point offered buyers a more traditional home, within the still rural enclave. Residents and city officials played a very active role in guiding and shaping their city’s continued growth.
Today, it’s very evident that those efforts paid off. Parkland grew up to embody not only the original country flavor that it was founded on, but also top-rated schools an extensive system of parks and recreation and a variety of home styles and types that offer every resident an atmosphere and quality of life that are unique in all of South Florida.
